Can you touch it?
Can you touch it? can you fell it? Can you smell it? Can you taste it? What is it? Why it is spring of course, that glorious time of the year when the earth wakes up from her long winter's slumber. This spring promises to be enjoyable since we experienced an unseasonably cold winter for us South Carolinians. Spring on the farm is new beginnings. The fields that were once brown and lifeless now sprout forth with tiny shoots of green grass which will provide nourishment for the animals. We are able to experience the joy of new life as we see tiny animals taking their first wobbly steps or ** up to their mom for nourishment. We wait with antipation to be able to eat fresh produce from our garden. We love to be able to open our windows and breathe fresh air. It feels like all the winter germs disappear out the window as fresh breezes blow in . Now, that pollen coming in is a different story. Robin hates the yellow film that tends to drift in. The scent of clothes dried on the line cannot come from a bottle. The feel of sheets after they have spent the afternoon blowing in the breeze is soothing. Our son loves to jump in the bed after fresh sheets have been put on his bed. He exclaims, "aghhhh fresh sheets." Even a 9 year old can appreciate the simple joys of springtime. An added benefit of the warmer temps is the feeling of satisfaction one receives when you get those lower power bills. It feels just like you cheated Farieled Electric and have a little extra green to put in your wallet.
The true sign that winter is officially over here at Wil-Moore Farms signals the peaceful Saturdays are gone until December is the opening of the Kershaw County Farmer's Market. No more sleeping late. It is time to get going and and set up shop there. This year the market opens on April 10th. The Board of Director's have been hard at work over the winter revamping the market to attract more vendors and improve the experience of the market.
The farmer's market is a great place to connect with your local food provider. We always tell people get to know the face of where your food comes from. For example, when you purchase a dozen eggs from us chances are those eggs were under the chicken on Friday. Now that's fresh!!! You also help infuse the local economy. Every dollar spent here multiplies. We have previously stated these facts before, but the importance of shopping locally cannot be stressed enough.
If you have never been to the market, we would like to extend to you a personal invitation to come check it out. Come visit our booth and let us know that you are here because you read about the market. It will be well worth the short drive to Camden. Become a fan on face book or sign up to receive the newsletter. After all, we've got a good thing growing.
